At 08:12 on 27th July 2012, thousands of people across the UK will be joining together to ring in the first day of the London 2012 Olympic Games with 'All the Bells'. Everyone across the country is invited to take part. You can find out more, and discover 'All the Bells' events near you, at http://www.allthebells.com/
We will be joining in, and if you want to join in too - and do some maths at the same time - we've even provided the bell! Visit our interactive NRICH resource 'You Owe Me Five Farthings, Say the Bells of St Martins' to try your hand at bell ringing and working out the mathematical pattern to follow, while simultaneously making a joyful and celebratory noise!
If you want to find out more about the mathematics of traditional bell ringing, explore this article on Plus, our free online mathematics magazine, or watch an explanation from the Millennium Mathematics Project's James Grime in this video on the Discover Bell Ringing website.
