The Enigma Project aims to inspire interest in mathematics, science and history through interactive presentations and hands-on workshops focusing on codes and cryptography. Presentations include demonstrations of a real WWII Enigma cipher machine, owned by Simon Singh.
Please note that the Millennium Mathematics Project stopped running the Enigma Project in July 2014: after several very successful years, Dr James Grime, our Enigma Project Officer, has left to pursue solo projects. However, James will still be undertaking a limited number of Enigma visits on a freelance basis in the 2014/15 year.
To enquire about future availability please therefore email Dr James Grime or see jamesgrime.com.
We recommend James as a presenter; comments from schools in the 2013/14 year included:
'Our students always love the sessions James does, he has a great manner and engages students well in the mathematics of the sessions.'
'A brilliant day. We all enjoyed it hugely - staff, yr 8 pupils and 6th form helpers. It was an excellent mix of codebreaking and mathematical history, underpinned by the message that there are really exciting career possibilities out there for mathematicians.'
'Absolutely superb presentation, the students loved it and it was totally inspiring - brilliant!'
We still offer school visits by our NRICH Hands-On Maths Roadshow.
