How do mathematicians solve equations? Dr Vicky Neale explores some equations, and covers some highlights from the rich history of number theory along the way.

This talk by Dr Vicky Neale (Balliol College and Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford) was originally given to an audience of Year 12 (age 16-17) girls studying A level Maths. The talk formed part of a day we organised for students considering applying to study mathematics at university, with a special focus on problem solving. It was recorded on 18 April 2016.
