Let the Games begin!

To celebrate London 2012, over the past 18 months we've been running our Maths and Sport: Countdown to the Games project, creating free online resources exploring maths through the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The resources include mathematical activities at all levels from age 5 to A-level, designed to develop problem-solving and mathematical reasoning skills, as well as articles for general readers exploring mathematics in the Olympics. In addition, the site features video maths challenges for primary and young secondary maths students produced with input from us by BBC Two Learning Zone, and videos of a series of public lectures on Maths and Sport given by John Barrow for Gresham College.

Our Maths of Sport project is a partner in the London 2012 Get Set + education programme and has also been awarded the London 2012 Inspire Mark.

As the Games go on, we'll be providing a daily Olympics calendar on our Plus website and daily social media maths and sport updates via Twitter (@mathsandsport). We've also stuck our neck out and published our predictions for the final 2012 Olympic medal table, and you can check how close to reality these are with our interactive 2012 Olympics medals map, unveiled today. Finally, MMP Director Professor John D Barrow FRS will be writing a column on Maths and Sport in the Daily Telegraph, every day between 28 July and 12 August.
