Title: Mathematical modelling of H5N1 influenza in US dairy cattle
Abstract: In 2024 the world saw the first ever sustained transmission of H5N1 avian influenza in cattle - a brand new mammalian reservoir. Since then, 18 US states have declared outbreaks in dairy cattle, with over 1000 total herds confirmed as infected. This talk introduces the peculiar epidemiology of this novel outbreak, the impact of interventions to date, the rates of under-reporting, and what this means for other countries.
