Assuming reults

To what extent are we allowed to assume results e.g. Leibniz' rule for differentiating products etc?

It's generally okay to assume things as long as they don't make the question significantly easier. Leibniz rule for differentiating products would be fine in pretty much all cases, except ones where the clear intent of the question is to work on the product rule, and using Leibniz's rule sidesteps all of that. Basically, common sense should be enough to decide what's enough to assume and not.
