Step II 2006 Q5

I am doing part (i) but I cannot get the answer to come out to be the soln. I keep getting 3/2(n-1) but the answer is supposed to be 3/2n(n-1)
I simplified the integral to just be the 3 times the integral of x - floor(x) between n and 1 and calculated that as (n-1) * area of a unit triangle * 3 but this doesn't get me the correct answer.
What am I doing wrong?

I am stuck in the last part. I might be missing something, as I cannot see how to get $B=KT^n$ .

The integral of b(x) from 0 to infinity seems hard to evaluate: I have tried by parts so far. I do not know if I have to actually integrate it or if there is another way to reach the given result for B??

Old STEP papers

Hello all,

I have already gone through STEP II and III papers from 2014 to 1998. (I am keeping 2015 and 2016 to use them as final mocks in the next weeks).

I am doing quite well in STEP II, so I would like to spend these remaining weeks before the exams getting more practice in STEP III. I am about to start going through the 1997 to 1987 papers. Would you recommend me to do only the Further B section or also the Further A ones? Are they both STEP III style?

For the second part of this question I only got one set of solutions to the equation which was : θ=((2n+1)pi)/(b+a-1) however I did not get the second set of solutions that were given in the official solution θ=(2npi)/(b-a).

The mark scheme says x=vtcostheta +at^2/2 but isn't the horizontal acceleration supposed to be opposite to displacement? Since acceleration is going north and the cannon is being fired south?

I can't get my head around how Y = b + beta k a

I get you go to B and then back down by a factor of a to Y but I'm not sure how you get to beta
